How to Apply
The Bristol Housing Authority has joined the RI Centralized Waiting List Portal for the Housing Choice Voucher Rental Assistance Program (formally known as Section 8 Housing).
Individuals interested in applying must complete and submit a pre-application electronically through the Centralized Wait List online application portal, accessible at
Applicants MUST have an email address.
Applicants requiring assistance completing an application may contact Rhode Island Housing at 844-459-3600 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. To request a reasonable accommodation in order to complete an application, please call 401-457-1288. Applicants may also contact Rhode Island Housing via TTY at 401-450-1394.
Applicants may also call the HCV Program office of the Bristol Housing Authority at 401-253-4464, x10 and schedule an appointment for additional assistance in applying for the program.
To be determined “conditionally eligible” and placed on one or more waiting list, applicants must fall within each agency’s maximum annual income limits for their household size. Conditionally eligible applicants will be placed on the applicable waiting lists based on the date and time that they apply and any selection preferences established by each housing authority. Bristol Housing Authority, PHARI, Rhode Island Housing, will not on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, creed, nationality or ethnic origin, age, family or marital status, sexual orientation, handicap or disability, deny any family or individual the opportunity to apply for , or receive assistance under the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
The BHA shall offer the following local preferences according to a point system:
Residency Preference (2 points): For families who live or work in Bristol.
In order to verify that an applicant a has a residency preference, the BHA will require a minimum of two (2) of the following documents:
an executed copy of a lease, rent receipts, gas/electric or water bill, pay stubs, W2, Federal 1040 Tax Form, driver’s license or state ID.
In order to verify that an applicant a has a residency preference due to working in Bristol, the BHA will require a minimum of four (4) current, consecutive pay stubs and will verify employment by sending a third-party employment verification form.
Rhode Island Resident Preference (1 point): For families who live in the state of Rhode Island.
In order to verify that an applicant has a RI resident preference, the BHA will require a minimum of two (2) of the following documents: rent receipts and lease, utility bills, employer or agency records, school records, drivers licenses, voters registration records, or credit report.
